This Veterans Day, Friends Homes will host a special celebration to honor more than 100 residents who proudly served our country in the U.S. Armed Forces. The event will bring together veterans and their loved ones for a meaningful morning filled with gratitude, music, and recognition.
All branches of the military are represented at Friends Homes, and each veteran has a unique story that reflects a lifetime of service and dedication. Residents who are veterans, along with four team members who have also served, will be recognized during a breakfast program that celebrates their courage and sacrifice.
The program will include a color guard performance by a local high school, the National Anthem performed by the school’s band and a musical performance by Southern Fried Jazz. Each veteran will be recognized by name and by branch of service, and a special video will feature a couple of residents sharing their personal stories from their time in the military.
“I really appreciate Friends Homes for recognizing the veterans in the way that they do. Having everyone stand as their branch is called is a very meaningful.” says Archie Williams, resident and retired U.S Air Force veteran.
In addition to honoring those who served, the event will also recognize military spouses whose support has been an important part of each veteran’s journey.
This community-wide celebration will feature a display of military photos showcasing residents and team members in uniform, serving as a powerful reminder of their bravery, dedication and the sacrifices they made for our country. It is a heartfelt tribute to those who have given so much and continue to inspire the Friends Homes family every day.
“Our Veterans Day observance brings the community together to honor those at Friends Homes who served and to reflect on their sacrifice. It means so much to our veterans and gives others a chance to show appreciation. Speaking with them reminds me of my own father, who joined the Navy as a teenager during World War II, and I’m grateful for all who have served our country,” says Bobbie Nicholson, Spiritual Wellness Coordinator.
Through events like this, Friends Homes reaffirms its deep commitment to honoring and celebrating all who have served, making sure every veteran knows they are valued and appreciated today and every day.
